Effect of Trunk Stabilization Exercise Program in Elderly Women with Chronic Low Back Pain

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of trunk stabilization exercise program in elderly women with chronic low back pain. The study was non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Female seniors in age of 65 or higher using D, J and S welfare centers in D metropolitan city having low back pains as main symptoms for 6 months or longer are randomly selected. The total number of the sample was 54 people, with 27 each in the experimental and control groups. Subjects decreased significantly current low back pain(F=31.851, p<.001), the worst low back pain(t=-6.246, p<.001), the disability(F=77.635, p<.001), timed up and go test(t=-2.393, p=.020), the degree of urinary incontinence(t=-5.377, p<.001) and increased significantly the flexibility(F=25.434, p<.001), standing on one leg with eyes open(F=8.023, p=.007), the maximum(t=5.253, p<.001) and mean(t=4.891, p<.001) of the pressure of vaginal contraction. Addition, the change of the condition of urinary incontinence(p=.008) showed significant differences. The degree of chronic low back pain, urinary incontinence, and the disability index of elderly women who had chronic low back pain decreased, and the condition of urinary incontinence positively change with the decline of the degree of urinary incontinence through the trunk stabilization exercise program.
